My complete filter change experience
"I'm not sure when I bought this countertop system but I'm guessing 1 and 1/2 to 2 years at this point. At the six month mark I changed the three filters. . that went well. . . but then after that, I went a YEAR before changing anything because not only was a dreading taking everything apart, I was afraid I would screw something up and be without a water filter system. . . I had the 1 year filterset just sitting in a box in a spare room. . Well, I'm here to tell you, I changed everything with NO issues. I got a towel and put on the kitchen floor. . . disconnected everything and put it on the towel, sat in floor and took pictures from all sides so I wouldn't reconnect something wrong. . . I had everything taken apart. . . I was even able to clean the caddy itself. . . . . . . after everything was apart, unscrewed the ROM housing cap and used a wrech to grab into the ROM filter and pull it out. . . Let me tell you guys, it was slimy in there! I'm so glad I did this. . . (I was still getting 2ppm after a year), but I didn't care. I wanted these changed. . . I sprayed bleach water mixture in the rom houseing and scrubbed it with a bottle brush, rinsed really well. . . put the new rom filter in, pushed down so that I knew it was in there, tightened the cap really tightly and proceeded to slowly install all the filters back. . . I remembered from the last filter change the PAC filter had a nut that had to be taken off and reused, so I did that. . . . I got everything back exactly the way it looked from the factory. . . Hooked it up, said a prayer for no leaks. . . and ran it for 2 hours per instructions. . ZERO leaks! What I find strange is that after running it for 2 hours, then filling 3 glass gallon jars to put in the fridge, the PPM reads about 12ppm. . . I mean, that's not bad. . . but I figured it would be equally as low as it has been. . I think I remember reading the PPM will go down as it's continued to be used. . . If there's anyone paranoid about changing these filters. . . if I can do it, anybody can. . . cuz I'm not a handy person at all. . I just went really slowly and made sure when inserting hoses I pushed in all the way until they stopped. . . Now I'm good for six months :) FYI. . . I wish I knew how to install the alkaline filter. I can't find much info on that. . . Now that I've done a complete filter change I feel like I could do that. . . although I'm not sure where exactly the 5th filter would go on the caddy. . . Hope this helps"
